On January 1st, Betsy Ross was born in the year 1752. She was born into a family of ten. Her father was a carpenter. He made all sorts of things including doll furniture. When Betsy was seven she cut her finger on a saw. That was when her mother gave her an essential to sewing, a thimble.
When she was 9, she went to see Dr. Franklin. He thought she was the Liberty Bell's twin because she was rambunctious. When she was ten she went to school where she learned to read and sew.
When she was fifteen, she married a man named Jon Ross, a general. Three years later he died in an explosion. Seven months later she unknowingly married a criminal and he died in prison. The third one was a charm and she had seven children with him.
When her third husband died, she became George Washington's seamstress. He helped her with her business and in exchange, she embroidered his clothes. One morning he asked her to sew the flag.
Betsy is my hero because she worked to give this country a name and symbol.
