Brittney Jones

by Molly from Pickerington

HERO: a man of distinguished courage or ability, admired for his brave deeds and noble qualities.

That’s the dictionary’s definition, but to me a hero is someone who makes a difference in your life. They are a person you look up to, go to for help. A hero is someone who can change your life.

It's important to have a hero for many reasons. First off, you always need a person you can look up to. A person you can talk to anything about, always their always listening. Somebody who can be a role model to you. Yes, you should have a hero.

My hero is Brittney Jones. She has been my softball coach for the past two years and has helped me become the player I am today. She has been an example of what it means to be a student athlete as a former valedictorian. She always has the best attitude; even if somebody makes a bad play she brings him or her up. Brit taught me to keep my head up, forget about my mistakes and learn from them. Brittney is somebody I go to if I need help because she always has the answers. When i'm with her theirs always a smile on both of our faces. Brittney Jones is my hero.

Why shouldn’t Brittney be in the hall of fame? She always has the best attitude; always up-beat. Brit knows how to bring a person up if they're feeling sad. She can turn you into an all-star player. From eighth grade year till now, I have evolved into a better player. Why shouldn't she be in the hall of fame?

Q&A

Q. Who is your hero and why is that person your hero?

A. I just don’t have one hero and I can't set my mind on one either. All of my Heroes are heroes for different reasons. My best friend Kacie, who stands up for what she believes in, doesn’t let anything get her down. My dad who is always there for me, and my mom who’s been through so much. My brother, who goes after what he believes in. I can’t just pick one.

Q. What do you think makes a hero?

A. Someone who you look up to; who cares about you, who's giving. Someone who puts others before themself and stands up for what’s right.

Q. Are heroes good role models?

A. Yes. Because they can help you and teach you. Q. Do you consider yourself a hero?

A. I never thought of myself as a hero. I guess I am like a role model for my little sister.

Q. Who was your childhood hero?

A. My dad, because he went through a hard time with a divorce, did so much for me and he was always there. He was at every game I had. I guess I would say he's my hero now, too.
