A web of Brian McKeever. (I made it on Inspiration.) |
Brian McKeever is a true Canadian Hero. He was born in Calgary, Alberta on June 18, 1978. Three years later Brian started skiing at the age of three. By the age of twelve Brian competed his first competition. His first major event was in 1997-98 Junior World Championship in Pontresina Switzerland. Brian McKeever has a older brother named Robin. What Brian enjoys most about skiing is the adrenaline rush he receives when skiing.

In 1998 Brian was diagnosed with Stargaards disease. Stargaards is macular degeneration or loss of central vision. After Brian was diagnosed, Kasper Wirz introduced him to blind skiing. I think he is really remarkable because he did not just give up skiing when he was diagnosed. In this way he was a fighter. His brother Robin was very influential, Robin was a member of the 1998 Olympic cross country team. Racing on snow and ice and just seeing a fuzzy ball in front of him, he is determined and if he can do it legally blind then we can push ourselves to excel at what we do.

Brian McKeever shows that he is one of the best skiers in the world with his seven gold and two silver medals at the Paralympics in cross country during his career. Cross country is not the only event he has won a medal in. He won a bronze in biathlon at the 2006 Torino Paralympics. Brian McKeever is a hero the way he makes Canada proud at the Paralympics and also how much determination he has. It was announced the day before the race who would be skiing for the 2010 Canadian Olympic team. There were five Canadians but only four could ski, Brian was the odd man out. But after a couple days he had to put it behind him because he was competing in the Paralympics. In front of a home crowd, Brian McKeever won three gold medals. This is how Brian McKeever is a true Canadian Hero.
Brian McKeever was born in Calgary on June 18 1979 in Calgary Alberta he currently lives in Canmore. In Canmore is the Nordic Centre. That is where Brian does a lot of training. His two coaches are named Dave Wood and Kasper Wirz. When Brian competes his brother Robin goes in front and guides Brian McKeever.
