Bob Munden

by Bri from LaGrange

In the self-indulgent world we live in today, it is always remarkable to see a human being not abuse their talent and power, however vast they may be. Bob Munden is one of these few. Talent, sided with humor, are wonderful gifts that shouldn’t be used for fame and money, and as an individual, it would be best used as a tool to help others.

Bob Munden is renowned throughout the firearm world for having the fastest and most accurate draw with a handgun. He frequently spends time with his grown grandchildren on the shooting range. As a child, Bob grew up in Southern California. He is the oldest of five siblings, and always practiced shooting with his bow and gun. Bob would also shoot game to help support and feed his family, since money was scarce where they lived.

During his time of record-setting success, Bob dismantled his gun, teaching himself how to make firearms that could withstand the turbulence of Fast Draw, a sport that involves a quick hand, smart mind, and working handgun. Television programs such as Ripley’s Believe it or Not, The Steve Allen Show, Stan Lee’s Super Humans, Extraordinary, and more. Munden also does a weekly show known as Shooting USA’s Impossible Shots. With determination and mild humor, Bob continues to be an inspiration to those who take interest in the shooting sport. Although it has been scientifically proven that Bob is an elite individual, he did not win his first gun tournament, thus hinting that with practice mostly anyone can become something great.

Bob is an inspiration to me, because here is a man that has the ability to attain great fame and money, but still holds his passion and family as his main priority. The whole concept of selflessness displayed throughout both Bob’s young and professional life has left a great impact on how I want to be, and how I want to treat my family when I grow up. My view of the world, like many other peoples’, has been shaded by drugs, prostitutes, and other horrible things that talented persons, a.k.a. celebrities, use. In order to brighten the views that I now have, there must be more people like Bob Munden; who have talent and values at the same time.

The ability to control one’s self is something I value greatly. It would be easy for Bob to become an awesome actor in the next big action movie, get paid millions, do random commercials, and so forth for the power that comes with fame. Of course, this would mean abandoning the show he’s on, and the family he supports. There have, and there always will be, people that do this. So now, on this Earth created by humans with lies, enmity, and greed, it is truly great to see heroes like Bob Munden; who uses his skill and talent to better his peoples’ world, not just his.

Before writing my essay, I reviewed Bob Munden's bibliography on his website (www.bobmunden.com). I also got several peices of information from various television shows, including Stan Lee's Superhuman and Shooting U.S.A's Impossible Shots.
