Todd Beamer (http://www.post-gazette.com/headlines/20010916phonecallnat3p3.asp) |
When you hear the name Todd Beamer, you probably have heard of the name, but you really can’t remember anything about him, right? Well, let me just tell you this; because of Todd Beamer and the other passengers onboard Flight 93, our country was saved from another brutal attack on September 11, 2001.
Todd Beamer was an executive from Hightstown, New Jersey. He was on his was on his way to a business meeting in California. People that Todd knew said he was always ambitious and wanted justice. While Todd was on his flight, terrorists hijacked the flight and tried to divert it to Washington D.C.
While on the flight, Todd and the other brave passengers were forced to one part of the plane. They all started making phone calls to loved ones when they found out this wasn’t just a routine hijacking, it was suicide mission. This is when Todd and the passengers of Flight 93 devised a plan of using anything they could get their hands on, such as forks, boiling water, knives, and various other items. “Are you guys ready? Let’s roll!” This is what Todd said to the rest of the passengers and crew on the plane when they were able to stop the terrorists from making another attack in bustling Washington D.C., but instead crash landed in an empty cornfield in Pennsylvania.

The heroic qualities of Todd Beamer have affected my life because if Todd had not said “Let’s roll!” and told everyone it was a terrorist suicide mission, Flight 93 would have flown straight into Washington D.C., our nation’s capitol and killed thousands of more people. This would have led to more chaos and mayhem.
In a way, when Todd Beamer and the passengers of Flight 93 diverted the plane from Washington D.C., they saved thousands of people’s lives. That is why Todd Beamer has affected my life. Next time you hear his name, maybe you will think of him as another hero of September 11, 2001.
