Uncle Bill

by Jordyn from Glenbrook Middle School

"Choose a job you love, and you will never work a day in your life." Confucius

When I was young, I knew my uncle worked for NASA, but I always thought he was an astronaut. As I got older, I figured out he was an engineer for NASA, and that job seemed to become even more important than ever to me. I chose my uncle as my hero because I really look up to him as a role model, and he helped many astronauts travel safely and successfully into space.

So, you don’t know what NASA is? NASA is the National Aeronautics and Space Administration. They started in 1958. They make satellites, and send probes into space. Some of their scientists study things in the solar system and farther. They have a headquarters in Washington D.C. but they have 10 NASA’s all over the United States. They plan rockets and new spacecrafts. By 2020, they plan for astronauts to have landed on the moon.

The reason I chose my uncle was because he was honored by an astronaut in 1999. He was born is Springfield, and is a grad of Western New England College. His parents live in Massachusetts. In 1992 he got his master’s degree in engineer working. On December 15th 1999, my uncle was awarded with the Silver Snoopy award; it was given to him because it was made to honor people who contribute the most to success and safety. The reward is given to only 1% of the space center’s work force a year. This is why my uncle is my hero.
