Binti Jua

My hero is Binti Jua the gorilla. Some gorillas do not help people when they get hurt, but this gorilla does.

One day on August 16, 1996 in the Chicago, Illinois, Brookfield Zoo, a three year old boy fell down 20 feet off the wall next to the cage of Binti Jua. Binti Jua saw the small unconscious boy. Binti Jua lifted Koola (Koola is the baby of Binti Jua) up on her back. Then Binti Jua lifted the boy into her arms and carried him to safety. When she got to the men, she gave the little boy to one of the guards.

Binti Jua showed that she is a hero because of her brave act that day. She cared about the boy as if it were her child. I hope other animals are like her. That is why she is my hero.
