"Music can change the world because it can change people" (Bono). Our culture derives for a better world; our society is filled with everyday heroes. In which includes Paul Hewson or more known as "Bono" is the lead guitarist and vocalist for Irish rock band U2. Beginning his career in the music industry little did he know how much of a change he would bestow upon the world. Known mostly as a rock star to most people, he is much more than that, he is an activist and humanitarian to those who need help. Bono has co-founded many charitable programs such as DATA, EDUN, the ONE Campaign and Product Red that promote positive change each step at a time. A hero comes through all forms the rich and famous, the poor, and the average Joe. It's not what the hero is; it's what the hero does that makes him an inspiration to others. Heroes are strong, determined people acting for a cause. Bono the main vocalist for the Irish rock band "U2" utilized his power not to make money instead he used his substantial influence to convince twenty - three countries to relief Africa's debt owed to other countries; he expresses his determination and loyalty to our global community, through the decade Bono has showed dedication, courage, and selflessness.

Bono a man on a mission exemplifies the heroic trait of selflessness: dedicating a good portion of his life to help others in impoverished Third-World countries. Bono is an world figure and had the power for social justice, a man ready for change. "Bono also lobbied French president Jacques Chirac and other world leaders to encourage aid to developing countries, and was instrumental in the campaign Drop the Debt that wiped out international debt owed by third world governments" (Newsmakers). Being a world renowned rock star Bono was not taken seriously and went through struggles convincing other countries. Bono did not simply do the actions he did for no reason, he acted upon the call of righteousness: being there when the world needed him."Guest speaker at the University of Pennsylvania commencement ceremony where he encouraged graduates to get involved with the fight against the AIDS epidemic in Africa" (Encyclopedia of World Biography, 2005). Being unselfish was what Bono lived for, he fought big financial benefited countries including America to show them what is being done to Africa is selfish. Bono's goal is to have an AID's free generation by 2015, the only way he can do that is to inform other people there needs to be change. With the selfishness comes greed and self-indulgence which makes high economic countries oversee what is taken place: Bono has pulled every last string to try to play out what Countries have been doing to Third-World countries.

Bono a man of courage, never backing down when things get tough. When he was not taken seriously it made him want to succeed more with a fiery passion. "In 2003 he met with US president George Bush to praise his decision to increase aid to prevent AIDS in Africa and the Caribbean. Bono said Europe needed to step up its aid as well" (Newsmakers). When Bono met with President Bush he was risking his image and exemplified tremendous courage stating his position to President Bush. With Bono's not giving in attitude, he was making progress in a bettering of Africa. With his tremendous influence to try to help Africa, there had been many positive and negative views. "While Bono's activist efforts have drawn praise from many quarters, and inspired thousands of his fans to become involved in social change, they have also drawn some criticism" (Encyclopedia of World Biography, 2005). Being Bono his courage oversaw all the criticism's put upon him. Bono put his reputation on the line for a cause he believed in, he did what was the right thing to do. With all his effort and courage to fight Powerful Countries, what did it come to? "He said the American donation was a big step in the right direction" (BBC News). His courage gave him a step ahead to get other Countries to join the change. With the U.S. on his side it showed that with his courage and influence amazing positive things can happen.

With a man's dedication to something he can rule the world, Bono's dedication to Africa and other Third-World countries was extraordinary. He has revolutionized what people can do to make a change through dedication and determination. "U2 frontman Bono has welcomed US President George Bush's decision to spend more on Aids prevention in Africa and the Caribbean" (BBC News). Through dedication spectacular things can happen. How did Bono convince countries to support him? "Bono continued to appear on world stages as part of celebrity gatherings and musical events supporting relief and humanitarian causes" (Newsmakers). His Advertising for social justice on super power economies got him the attention he needed. He got the public interested in change in impoverished countries around the world. What was the outcome of dedication? "In 2003 Bono was recognized for his humanitarian work with a nomination for the Nobel Peace Prize. That same year he received the rank Chevalier dans l'Ordre de la Legion d'Honneur, or Knight in the Order of the Legion of Honor" (Newsmakers). It goes to show when someone believes in a rightful cause and is dedicated in the change of a something good amazing things can happen. With Bono's dedication to helping others he has helped tremendously in the benefit of others. .

With a power of a raging hurricane Paul Hewson was a man on a mission. He was there when others weren't, being on the call for Africa. He knew what major countries were doing to Africa and supported a positive cause to alleviate to debt bestowed on impoverished Third-World countries across the world. The only way a project like this was through sheer dedication, courage, and selflessness. With Bono's dedication to help Africa relieve its debt from other Countries; he had received recognition through awards. Due to his dedication he has helped Third World Countries overcome and help with their debts, AIDs, and malaria. He has spent huge amounts of his life trying to improve other people's lives. He has convinced Countries what they are doing to Africa is wrong. Bono's courage is unbeatable he went to great lengths to even create his own lobby to fight congress to relieve the debt put on Africa. Bono is an inspiration to us all he was there when others were not, he did not simply give up and turn his back on other counties in need. A inspiration to our society, Bono personifies the heroic traits Courage, Selflessness, and Dedication that sets him apart from a everyday celebrity. A man on a mission, Bono is ready for change, is taking the necessary step for them. Nearly a decade ago the world turned their back on Africa, Bono saw what was happening and could not just watch the world eat away at the continent. He lead a group of programs created for change, going country to country to convince them to alleviate to debt. What he did was nothing short of a miracle, Bono is a hero because he acts when others don't, when he see bad things happening he jumps in fearless and tries to help it. That is why Paul Hewson is a hero.
