Buffalo Bill |
Buffalo Bill was a hero to me because he was the type of person that would pursue his dreams, and make them come true at any expense. Buffalo Bill was born in Le Claire Iowa, on February 26, 1846. When Buffalo got to be old enough to know what he wanted to do with his life, he wanted to get started on making things happen as fast as he could. And that he did.
Buffalo Bill left his home in Leaven Worth, Kansas, at the age of eleven to get started on pursuing his dreams of becoming famous. After he had left his home, Buffalo Bill became a cattle herder and worked on a wagon train, crossing the great plains several times before he realized that he needed to do something in life that would make him be noticed by all of the people. Buffalo went to work as a hunter for the army for a while, still trying to figure out exactly what it was that he wanted to do. The army is where the name of Buffalo came into play. His real name is Cody. After the army, Cody finally started to realize that show business was for him. So he went for it with flying colors. Cody’s show business career started on December 17, 1872, when he starred in the screen play called “The Scouts of the Prairie” in Chicago. By the time that this play hit the news, Cody was in news papers and dime articles explaining how the show was a hit, and he was one of the main characters, thus him coming out of this whole experience being famous, as he wanted. There were a few hardships and struggles that Cody endured to get where he wanted to go, the top. The situation that was the most hard for him was when everyone made fun of the name Cowboy, associating it with all sorts of rude, inappropriate things. This was hard for Bill’s whole show, seing as how all he played was the roles of cowboys. But, knowing Cody, he could fix anything, and so he portrayed the name to be a good thing, placing it in huge letters on the banners of his shows. He was proud of this, because he turned the thoughts of people around, and got them to like the cowboys better than ever.
I think that him being able to leave his home and surviving on his own at the age of eleven is astounding, and he deserves a lot of credit for it. Also, at the age of eleven, Cody displayed his heroism by signing on to the American army, and becoming a hunter for them. This is heroic simply because he was only eleven, and he joined the army simply because he needed some place to stay, and make money. He did something that was challenging just to get what little amounts of things that he needed to survive. Another fact that explains the heroism of Buffalo Bill Cody, is that he was able to complete all of the goals that he had set for himself, and he was able to complete them with little trial and error. Last but not least, Buffalo Bill Cody was a hero because he was able to go over to England and put on a show for the queen, and was very successful at his dream. This makes him a hero, because without him pursuing his dream, we would not have many of the screen plays that we have nowadays and we would not have such a good role model to look up to, making us able to pursue and achieve our personal goals.
Buffalo Bill Cody’s behavior reflected these characteristics of a hero: 1.) He followed through with the plans he had for himself. This being that he wanted to be a playwright and he did it, going on to be a famous person. 2.) Buffalo Bll let people in on his secrets to success, allowing people to follow him around and help him to pursue his goals, and in turn, he would help them accomplish theirs. This was heroic because he didn’t only care about the well being of himself, but also the well being of everyone around him. 3.) Buffalo Bill was a very wise advisor, he was able to advise people to the best of his knowledge, allowing them to pursue their dreams easier and more effectively. 4.) Buffalo Bll had an accepting heart of gold. He accepted anyone, he did not ever say who could or could not follow him, and pursue their dreams, he wanted them there. He wanted everyone to be accepted.
Buffalo Bill Cody lived a good long life. He did all that he wanted to do, and many people were very proud of him. He could have done nothing more to have had a better life, he was an all around good man. Buffalo Bill Cody passed away in 1917, at the home of his sister in Denver Colorado.
The life that Buffalo Bill Cody led, taught us to all pursue our dreams. It taught us all to let it be known that we were coming out with a fight, and we were not going to stop fighting until we got what we wanted. Pursue your dreams, you will make it. All you have to do is try. You’ll make it.
