Cesar Chavez |
Cesar E. Chavez was born in Yuma, Arizona, March 31, 1927, and died April 23, 1993. Cesar Chavez moved around a lot as a child. He became a migrant worker because of the loss of his parent’s farm. Later on he led a group of migrant workers. The name of the group was Farm Workers of America AFL-CIO. Cesar E. Chavez is a hero to me because he was courageous, he persevered, and he fought for non-violence for the migrant workers rights.
Cesar is courageous because he quit his job to work on unionizing the farm workers. With all the things he was doing for his people, he still had a wife and five children. Since he didn’t have a job, he didn’t have money to support his family. Many ranchers and farmers threatened his life and his family. He didn’t have any guards or anyone to protect him but his people. Although he had many enemies, he still had his family and friends to support him.

Cesar also persevered. The strikes he made lasted up to three years. Even if it was hard, he motivated his workers. Cesar thought it was unfair the way the ranchers and farmers were treating the migrant workers. He made his movement national with strikes from California to New York. They would strike in front of grocery stores so people could see them.
Cesar fought for non-violence. Cesar made strikes and protests. Cesar put pressure on the farmers and would even fast to get attention. Even though some of the workers wanted violence, Cesar made sure that if anything was going to be done, violence was not the answer. When things got hard and workers started giving up, he reunited the workers and came up with new plans.
Cesar E. Chavez is a hero to me because he was courageous, he persevered, and he fought for non-violence, for the migrant workers rights!
