Clara Barton

by Beatriz from Farmersville

Many people think that a hero is only one famous person on the TV, cartoon or person in the fiction movies, but not a hero in many times is only one person that helps people in the community or one country. My hero is a real and brave woman that helped people. Her name is Clara Barton. This woman helped a lot soldiers.

When Clara was a child she helped her brother when he was sick. Then she became a teacher when she has 17 years old. She liked to read and write, she was the first woman to receive pay like men. Clara always said: "I may be compelled to face danger, but never fear it, and while our soldiers can stand and fight, I can stand and feed and nurse them."

Clara became a nurse during U.S Civil War. She helped a lot of soldiers in the camp. The soldiers called her the "Angel of the Battlefield" because she helped them a lot. After her trip in Europe she founded the American Red Cross.

In conclusion Clara Barton was a hero because she helped a lot of children and soldiers in the camp. She was an important person in the U.S history and founded one of most vital organizations for emergencies.
