Charles Eifrig was born in Lexington, Kentucky. He spent most of his life in Edina, Minnesota, and up north in Deerwood, Minnesota, on Bay Lake and was a HUGE troublemaker when he was a kid. As he grew up he became less of a troublemaker and began helping people with their vision as a corneal transplant surgeon.

Surrounded by many friends and family, Charles was young when something exotic happened to him. It was Thanksgiving time and a lot of family was over. He was in the other room playing around with his family cat, Tank. All of a sudden, he came out of the room with the cat hanging from his tear duct. The cat and he were both freaking out. His dad, who was an eye surgeon, started to pull the cat off of him. It took a long time but he finally got it off. Charles was lucky he didn’t have any eye damage. He felt very thankful. He realized what his career was going to be.

Charles Eifrig went off to college at UNC (University of North Carolina) thirteen years ago. There he studied for many years to become an eye surgeon. He had an internship at Mercy Hospital in San Diego, California and then he moved out to Orange County, California. He moved out with his wife and daughter. Later he had a son. Now Charles is a Corneal Transplant Surgeon, along with his two partners Desmond E. McGuire and John S. Lean.

Charles is experiencing big success even though he may have been a troublemaker when he was younger. When he retires, he hopes to stay in California and do what he has always wanted to do, be a lifesaver in many other ways.

Charles is my hero because he is a life and eye saver. I hope to someday help someone, or a lot of people, the way he did. When I grow up I'm not sure what I want to be, but whatever my job will be I want to help people with my career.
