Craig Kielburger

by Daniel, grade 5 from Canada

Children should be holding pencils, not tools

Craig Kielburger is my hero because of his work to fight against child labor.

Craig Kielberger was born in December 17, 1982, in Thornhill, Ontario. In grade 7 he started the group Twelve- Twelve-Year-Olds. Which later became Free the Children. He lobbied the Canadian and Italian governments to stiffen laws against child abusers.

Craig Kielburger was inspired by a newspaper article about Iqbal Masih from South Asia. Iqbal was a child who was assassinated after he was put into child labor.

The conditions of child labor are miserable. They are kept in slavery, they do not get paid sick days, they get little food and are taken away from their family and worked long hours.

Craig Kielburger inspires me to stand up against child labor because it is not right. This quote is what inspires my hero ''children should be holding pencils not tools''.
