Carol Kleban

My hero is truly an inspirational women and family member. Everytime I see Carol Kleban she always complements me and she also gives me advice. For example, I was talking to my grandma on the phone a while ago, and we were talking about my upcoming bar mitzvah. So, I said I was ready, but I’m nervous. And after I mumbled those words, she immediately told me what I can do to succeed. I praise my grandmother for that. My grandma has had a various life. She’s had various jobs such as teaching, market researcher, and even worked in a friend's business. After all that, I especially admire her for her generosity and bravery.

Carol Dorothy Steinberg was born as Charlotte Steinberg. The ironic thing was that her mother gave birth on her birthday. Growing up was hard for my grandma because her father died when she was very young. So, growing up for my grandmother was very lonely. She had only one sister who was five years older than she was, and her mom had worked a lot to support the family. As a result of this, my grandma grew up as an independent girl.

In college, my grandmother was president of the women’s student council. After college and after she retired, she moved to Cape Cod. At Cape Cod, she became the president of the newcomers club. The newcomers club had about 1,000 people in it. And, the more heroic quality of her being the president of all those people is that she was the first woman president of that club. That quality of bravery to stand up and become the first woman president really inspires me.

These events impact my view of the world because my grandmother probably changed that club forever. This inspires me because now I can look at my grandma and think that she is like a Jackie Robinson. I can look at her and I can say that she let that club out in Cape Cod be able to let more than just men run it. This also inspires me because I now know that my grandmother wasn’t just a lady, she was a woman who didn’t just sit around all day. She was up and active.

I value my grandmother's heroic qualities because not only is she brave and generous, but she knows how to be a good family member. But, other than that, I love it when people are brave enough to do all the things that my grandmother had done. Like I had said in the beginning, my grandma is an inspirational woman with my grandpa. And that is exactly why I picked her for my hero.
