THE CRAZY GAME

I chose Clint Malarchuk because I love hockey and because all the challenges he has overcome. My book is a autobiography written by Clint Malarchuk. My book is 247 pages long. The book takes place from when he was 1 year old till current time. The book was written in 2014. Clint Malarchuk has 3 life challenges: anxiety, depression and obsessive compulsive disorder. He survived a cut jugular. One year Clint led the league with 6 shutouts.

The start of the book talks about when he was born and when he was very young. Clint Malarchuk grew up two hours outside of Edmonton called Grande Prairie. His older brother, Garth, was drafted to the Washington Capitals but never played an NHL game. He was a goalie and Clint looked up to him. His mom ,Jean Ilene Jones, was always there for him. She was a nurse. Clint's dad loved hockey he left him when he was young and he was out of his life. He went to school in Grand Prairie, Alberta. He hated school and he had some interesting stories. His brother was practicing his pitching and he threw a fast ball and it hit Clint right in the nose and it broke his nose. Clint and his friends used to go to an underground sewer and hang out. His brother, Garth, influenced Clint to be his best. He looked up to Vladislav Trechiak because he was an amazing goalie and Jacques Plante because he was also an amazing goalie. Clint had bad dreams about his dad because his dad was an alcoholic and threw tantrums. Clint always wanted to be a pro hockey player. Clint had depression and it would sometimes get the better of him when he played pro hockey.

His dad was a alcoholic and always had fits. Clint also had his challenges- anxiety, depression and obsessive compulsive disorder and his cut jugular. His third wife, Joanie, really helped overcoming those challenges so did his doctor and his mom. His mom was always there for him. He overcame his drug addictions. He was very dedicated to his fitness. He was dedicated to be the best that he could be. His human weaknesses were drug addiction, alcohol addiction and a bad temper. Some sad stuff, he almost died three times shooting himself, cut jugular and drug overdose. His father left the family and hurt his mother and went though many divorces. Clint's awards were he got to play in the 1987 all star game. He won many baseball and hockey trophies when he was younger and he was a good cowboy. He had three kids. He had a real love for animals.

A disappointing fact was that a couple of years ago he tried to kill himself. He shot himself in the head and the bullet is still inside his head. He luckily survived.
What three questions would I ask Clint Malarchuk? 1. I would ask him what it felt like when he cut his neck? 2. What was it like playing against the best players in the world like Wayne Gretzky, Mario Lemieux...? 3. All the pressure of being a goalie what was it like? I would not want to be Clint Malarchuk's kid because of all the problems he has been through. I loved the book because of all the interesting things in the book. I learned about some sicknesses and how to never give up. Here are some things that apply to to my own life. I always work my hardest. I recommend this book to all sports fans. It is very interesting. I am happy I chose this book to read. He is a role model because of all the problems he has overcome but he disappointed me when he tried to kill himself.
