A hero is someone that overcomes an obstacle. Their success and accomplishments inspire others to do great things. Cheryl Miller is a female athlete. I see Cheryl as a hero because she is a very successful former female basketball player. She accomplished similar goals to what I have now, and that makes her a hero.
Cheryl Miller is a "four time All-American for three consecutive years in college and won the Naismith Award: Outstanding female basketball player"(blackathlete). Cheryl has many Olympic achievements in basketball playing for the United States, winning gold medals. Cheryl is a "Basketball Hall of Famer and she was in the FIBA because of her international play" (blackathlete).
Cheryl Miller should be admired during Black History Month because she is an African American woman who became successful in her passion for basketball. With lots of competition she stood out and became one of the best basketball players in the run. Cheryl Miller inspires African American young athletes and currently works as a commentator at the "Good Will Games."
Cheryl Miller inspires African American young female athletes to be successful. She is a role model because during her time she embraced both her hardships and accomplishments. Cheryl changes the world by ignoring stereotypes and working hard as a female athlete. If more people reach high goals like her, maybe women sports will be recognized and slowly progress.
A hero to me is someone that follows their dreams. They overcome their obstacles and accomplish their goals. All heroes in my mind inspire others to do positive things and that's what Cheryl Miller has done.
