Court Mcgee (Bing ()) |
Everyone has trials in their lives. The trials will make the person or break the person. Court Mcgee's struggle was drugs. On September 4th, 2005 Court overdosed in his cousin's trailer. His cousin just so happened to stop by and find Court unconscious. Court was pronounced dead on the ride over in the ambulance, but something brought him back. He drifted in and out on consciousness only to see the disappointing look on his grandfather's face. Court's grandfather passed away in early 2000, it was enough to wake Court up, but the drugs didn't stop. On Easter, Court's car broke down on his way to his parent's house, just as he had gotten high on cocaine. That night he knew he couldn't keep doing what he was doing, so he quit that night. Court got a job, cleaned up, and started going to the gym. Eventually Court got into mixed martial arts and competed all over Utah valley. His hard work got him a spot on Spike TV's Ultimate Fighter. Court Mcgee is one of my heroes because he overcame so much and improved himself and became someone that many people look up to.
I'll never forget the first time I met Court Mcgee. He was huge! I was almost intimidated just walking over to him, but as soon as he saw me and my cousin he smiled and shook both our hands. He was so humble, so much different than what I expected. Normally when you think of an MMA fighter you think of a giant man that could kill you without even trying. Court was just like everyone else, very down to earth. If I didn't know any better I wouldn't have even suspected he was a fighter. I remember walking out of that gym in Orem Utah just surprised and almost shocked. I met Court Mcgee and he shook my hand and hung out with me. He didn't even know who I was and he showed that all the fame and money hasn't changed him. He is just a regular guy whohas gone through hard times just like everyone else. Court is a real person, someone that I really relate to. I've seen drugs affect people my whole life and even lost some very close friends to it. When I found out Court went through those trials I really related to him and I really looked up to how he changed everything in his life to better himself.
My uncle was one of my best friends growing up. He passed away from a drug overdose. I witnessed first hand the affects of drugs and the toll they put on family and friends. I wish my uncle could have been like Court and realized that drugs aren't worth it. I really look up to Court in the fact that he actually realized what he was doing to himself and others, and that he could have the strength to quit and better his life. Court took his mind off of the drugs by going to the gym and working out and doing his fighting. Court fought a lot of matches all over Utah valley. He even got to fight an MMA legend, Jeremy Horn. Court was called to be on the Ultimate Fighter where he lost to Nick Ring. Court was eventually called back due to a fighter's injury. Court went all the way to the final fight where he fought Kris Mcray. He beat Kris with a choke hold and was the first fighter ever to come back and win the whole thing. Court really had to work to be who he is today. He always had that thought of addiction but stayed strong and worked through it.

Court Mcgee is someone that I will always admire for his strength and determination. Court is a real hero to me because no matter what he went through he stayed focused and never lost who he really was. He is a true fighter, in the cage and in life. Court got knocked down both in the cage and in life, but he always rose. He always got back up and never gave up on what he wanted. Court has a wife and kids, he has grown from everything and has shown that no matter the fight he will always get back up.
