Vince Carter runs toward the basket and then he jumps and finally dunks it with his 360° windmill and other moves. His full name is Vince Lamar Carter. He was born in Daytona Beach, Florida in January 26, 1977 and he is thirty years old. He plays basketball for the New Jersey Nets today. The position he plays is shooting guard/ small forward. There are many nicknames for Vince Carter, but my favorite nickname for him is “Half Man, Half Amazing.” Although Vince Carter seems short compared to the other basketball players he is actually 6 feet 6 inches tall, which is 1.98 meters. Vince Carter weighs 225 pounds, which is about 102 kilos. In the year of 2000 Vince Carter showed his athletic ways by winning the NBA Slam Dunk Contest (“Vince Carter, wikipedia). He won the contest by performing a group of dunks including a 360° windmill, a between the legs, and an "elbow dunk" (“Vince Carter”). Vince Lamar Carter is my hero.

Vince Carter inspires other people to play basketball even though they might not be so good at it. He also plays for my favorite basketball team, the New Jersey Nets and he never gives up. Vince Carter’s first dunk was in sixth grade. Vince Carter said, “A bunch of kids were over on the outside courts, I remember at Ormond Beach Middle School and we were sitting out there and everybody was trying to dunk a tennis ball and a volleyball. But I decided I’d try a basketball. So I actually threw the ball up, went off of one leg, jumped and go got it with one hand. Believe me, it was amazing” (“SI for Kids Q & A”). Even though he looks short compared to the other basketball players, he seems tall to me because he is a role model for all the short kids and basketball players. He tells them that you don’t have to be tall or a famous basketball player to make yourself somebody or to be a winner.
