The Chris Allen Band

by Beth from Jasper

Many people think that for someone to be a hero they have to rescue someone or save animals. But my heroes are people who are using the gifts and talents that God gave them for something more spectacular.

The Chris Allen Band's lead singer's name is Chris Allen. He surrendered himself to the ministry when he was 17. He had no interest in music, but when he was 19 he began to learn how to play the guitar. Soon after, he realized that God was calling him to share through music. In April of 2001, Chris became the youth pastor at Bayshore Baptist Church in La Porte, Texas. Chris is now the worship leader at Amp'd Student Ministries at First Baptist Church in Orlando, Florida. He travels around the U.S. with The Chris Allen band as the lead singer. "When asked what it means to be fulfilling God's plans for his life, Chris said `I am not trying to impress anyone with my musical ability. I am not a musician; I am a worship leader. I just believe that music is such a huge part of our culture today that a large number of people can be reached for Christ through music that glorifies God." (www.chrisallenband.com)

Chris Shippey became a Christian when he was seven and he met Chris Allen in his senior year in high school when Chris became the youth minister at his church in Florida. They didn't have a worship team put together for Wednesday night so Chris S. began to learn to play the djembe. Soon after he learned how to play the drums and he and Chris A. began to play together. He continued to play throughout high school and college and has surrendered himself to full time ministry as the drummer for The Chris Allen Band.

Cordy Raney became a Christian when he was seven and has been playing the guitar ever since he was twelve years old. He played all throughout high school and went to college at Sam Houston State University which is where he met Chris Shippey. Chris and Cordy became instant friends and eventually Chris had Cordy met Chris Allen. "I became a Christian at age seven and after meeting Chris Allen God confirmed to me that I was to be a part of the Chris Allen Band and its ministry." (www.chrisallenband.com) Cordy believes that his being part of the Chris Allen Band is far more than his musical talent. "I am a sinner saved by grace alone. The reality of that is what has given me my passion to worship." (www.chrisallenband.com)

This band came to play at a church event called D-now. They have taught me that I can love God anywhere at anytime. They have such a love for what they do and such a love for God that I couldn't help but to put them as my hero. You can tell that they love what they do because they never want to stop worshiping God and when they are leading, no one else wants to quit either. The Chris Allen Band has touched my life and taught me things that are truly amazing. This is why they are my hero.
