A hero is someone who has extraordinary qualities and uses them to help living creatures in need. Heroes also help raise the awareness of society in general. For example, Terry Fox, who lost his leg from cancer, ran across Canada to raise funds for cancer research. Another hero is Fin Donnelly, who swims in lakes and rivers across Canada to heighten awareness of water pollution. Shasta, a German shepherd dog, rescues people buried in avalanches and earthquakes. These three heroes helped people in different ways and one of them was an animal. A hero is an ordinary person or animal who does something extraordinary. My Aunt Cindy is my hero because she rescues animals that are in need and often saves their lives.
My aunt saves abandoned, sick, wounded and unwanted animals. She even brings some home with her when no one is willing to adopt them. Most people don’t pay much attention to the plight of animals, so my Aunt Cindy’s generosity is crucial. When my aunt finds stray animals on the street, she’ll bring them home and care for them until they get better. Then, she’ll try to find the animal an owner or she’ll keep it until she finds it a home.
People do not hesitate to help children who are abandoned or sick. Animals in need deserve the same treatment because they have always helped humans. For example, where would blind people be without seeing eye dogs? The police use dogs to sniff out narcotics and bombs. Dogs are brought into hospitals and senior citizen homes to cheer the sick and elderly. There are not many people who fight for the rights of animals because they’re not high on the list of charitable projects. That’s why I’m so proud of my Aunt Cindy.
My aunt was born and raised in Montreal, Canada. She got her degree in veterinary medicine in 1989. She married my mom’s brother, Steven, eight years after she opened her practice. They moved to Washington and had two kids, Lexie and Ryan. This past year they moved to Florida.
