I first found out who David Ogilvy was when I searched up famous people in business and advertising. He was the first person to come up because he is the "father of advertising". He became my hero because he overcame many obstacles such as not finishing high school yet being one of the best business men out there. What attracts me to his career is the fact that he never stopped trying until he made his own business and became very wealthy.
To be in this career you have to have many requirements. For education you have to have at least a bachelor's degree. The salary range for being in advertising is in the range of 70 to 80 thousand dollars. Job related tasks for advertising is you can gather and organize information to plan ad campaigns. Another job related task is that you will Inspect layouts and advertising copy and edit scripts, audio and video tapes, and other promotional material for adherence to specifications. A similar related career is Advertising and marketing managers. Another similar career is being a communication teacher.
As a young child, David Ogilvy and his family barely had enough money to survive. In the article " David Ogilvy Biography" on the website www.famouspeople.com it states that he would go to school on reduced fees at St. Cyprian's school in East Bourne. This helped him push himself to the best of his ability's to gain as much money as he can so his children don't go what he went through. He got a scholarship to Fetters College at the age of thirteen. He also got a scholarship to Christ Church Oxford but was not successful with his studies so he headed back to Scotland. He then put his knowledge to sell stoves door-to-door all over where he lived. In 1938, he moved to the United States when World War 2 was happening, to work for George Gallup's Audience Research Institute in New Jersey.
David Ogilvy helps others by teaching people how to advertise and helping people become well in the business industry. He made books so that he can teach others what to do and what not to do in the advertising business. In 1948, he founded the New York-based ad agency Hewitt, Ogilvy, Benson & Mather. This later became Ogilvy & Mather Worldwide. In his agency's first twenty years, Ogilvy won assignments from Lever Brothers, General Foods and American Express. In 1965, David merged the agency with Mather & Crowther, his London backers, to form a new international company.
The steps that I will take in order to live a life like my hero is do as best as I can in High School and pass all of my classes. Such as take classes in high school that will help me present to lots of people. A class that may help me is Statistics or moral codes of conduct class. I will take specific classes so that I will have some type of knowledge of what I will be doing in college and most likely the rest of my life. A college that I can go to that will help me is San Diego State University. There I can major in Advertising/ Marketing. This will help me become an expert in advertising. I wish to have a long life in the advertising business and help other people become better at it.
