One of Dale's heroic qualities, first of all, is selflessness. By co-founding Purple Heart Homes, he gets the opportunity to serve disabled veterans much like himself by designing and modifying their houses to make a home for them that is safe and accessible. What's more, he was nominated to be one of the top ten CNN heroes of the year in 2013 for putting others before himself. He also served America in the National Guard, risking his life (and his legs) for his country.
Perseverance is another heroic quality that Dale carries. As I mentioned before, he lost BOTH of his legs during a routine patrol in northern Iraq when his Humvee ran slightly off the road onto an anti-tank landmine. Yet he powered through. He spent a YEAR recovering from his injury in the Walter Reed Army Medical Center, but Dale never gave up. Despite the challenges, like that prosthetic legs can cost over $100,000. They can make you feel unstable, and prosthetic legs take more energy to walk in. He is using his life to bless and give to others by helping disabled vets.
Lastly, Dale shows humility. He puts others before himself by not worrying about his own needs, but instead makes sure that other people are happy and putting their needs before his own. He makes sure that the homes that he designs are exactly how the clients want them. He looks past his own disability, and alternatively notices other peoples' problems.
To conclude, Dale Beatty is selfless, he perseveres, and he shows humility. He helps disabled veterans, he served in the Army, and he doesn't give up. Therefore he is a true hero.
