Dale Dunning

by Corrine from Georgetown

Dale Dunning is my hero. Dale Dunning is my hero because she has done so much for others, she always puts others before herself in any situation, and she is completely selfless and nothing but warm-hearted. She helps people everyday who can't afford a good meal for their family, have nowhere else to go, need someone to talk to or listen to what they're going through, and even just a friend. Dale Dunning does it all. Even when she herself was going through an extremely rough time with not even having a home, she still put others before herself and didn't give up, no matter what the situation was. She believes that God will help her through life and its struggles and help others who need it as well. Dale gives so much to everyone, spending her own money to be able to make a variety of different soups, sandwiches, etc. Also waking up at 4 am just to get the soups ready and cooked, trying to use as many vegetables and making them her own type of recipe. Dale Dunning doesn't care what other people think or say, as long as she is helping others get through their rough times, that's all that she cares about. That is someone who you can call a true hero.

Dale Dunning has done so much! From waking up at 4 in the morning to going downstairs and get the soups cooking on the stove. Then caring every soup pot into and out of her RV for transportation from her own home to the "Juust Sooup" building. Then she makes sure all trash is picked up and and all the tables are set and looking neat and clean because she wants the people who go into it to feel like somebody cares and they know they can go there for a nice place to have a good meal. Dale also goes from place to place every week visiting all her "Juust Sooup" places she has opened. From here in Georgetown to all the way to Florida. She tries to visit every place to make sure everything is running smoothly and also to meet new people and help them and be there for them when they need it most. Dale has also spent her own money to open her Ministry up and enough soup prepared for as many people might come in that day. In a week Monday through Friday Dale makes 950 gallons of soup or more. She spends time listening to people's stories and what they are going through or what they have gone through. For example she fed this woman for almost a year who lost her family to a drunk driver accident, and witnessed it happen. She took care of her, she listened to her, and she was there for her until she was able to get back upon her feet. Dale Dunning has done so many things. The list could go on and on.

Dale Dunning lives in Lewes, Delaware. I have been to Lewes many times before and never have I once seen a homeless person. Maybe i have but i just didn't pay any attention to them, or take notice. But after realizing that Dale has helped and fed some many homeless people just in Lewes or even Georgetown that i should really start taking in my surroundings and look closely at what people are going through. I never thought that there could be so many homeless people just in one town. If there are a lot just in a town like Lewes or Georgetown, then imagine how many there are in the whole United States. Dale has lived In Lewes for a while, ever since she basically started the "Juust Sooup" ministry about 13 years ago or longer.

My hero Dale Dunning is still proudly living strong at 56 years old. She has had her Ministry "Jusst Sooup" going strong as well for almost 14 years now. Which shows that Dale is very committed to her business and has improved her business more each year by opening up new places and having new ideas for it, which also shows she has made a lot of progress from starting serving soup in a prayer group at her church to now having a total of 14 and hoping to add 10 more soon. She is not done helping people everyday in every way she can, and won't be for a while. Her goal is to help families and children not go to bed hungry every night or go without a meal for days. She is determined and I'm sure she will reach her goal.

Dale Dunning is important to me and has made a huge impact in my life. She has taught me that i should be more grateful in what i have, like the dinners i eat every night and how there are many people without food for days, or some without a home as well and sleep in the woods on leaves and dirt every night. Everyone should be more grateful in what each one of us have because there are some people out there in the world who don't have anything. After her telling me everything she has done to try to help people and her goals and life and what she has gone through, she helped me realize that anyone can make a difference in someone's life. Dale is very important to me because she taught me so much and made a huge difference in my life as a human being.
