Dale Dunning

by Ursula from Georgetown

" If You Love Me, Then Feed My Sheep."

Dale Dunning is my hero. This woman has helped many people out in her life from homeless people to people that have lost all of their family. No matter what has happened, she is always there for the homeless. I believe this woman is so great. When she was down and her house was on foreclosure she would take the money and give it to the needy, no matter what situation she is on, she will always put others first. Many people don't know about all of the bad that is happening in their local town with homeless people, but she makes then noticeable. I feel like she deserves to be recognized for what she has done but a lot of people don't know who she is. Dale is a very important woman because she gives so much and gets very little in return. She must struggle in many ways, but she keeps her head held high and does what is best. I will never forget who she is and the great things that she has done. Dunning starts early in the morning and has a full day ahead of her and yet everyday she pushes herself to do what is best.

My hero has done many things for people. She makes soup and other great meals for the homeless. I bet it is a scary job not knowing what to expect, but she enjoys it and loves to put other people before herself. She has set up many "Jusst Sooup" places in many states and towns. She is even about to open another one in Florida. I can only imagine the risk taking it must take to do this. She also calls people and brings them soup if they can't come to her. Also when someone is going through a tough time she will pray for them and go and visit them to make sure she is doing all that she can to make that person happy. Not only does she care for others. She gives the homeless shelter, clothing, cosmetics, and toiletries. She gives so much and that is what makes her my hero.

My hero, Dale Dunning, lives in Lewes, Delaware, which is the same town I live in. It makes me more inspired that she lives near me because it shows me that I can help out too. People usually think that they have done a lot to help out their community, but when you meet Dale Dunning you feel like you haven't even helped out at all. Lewes is an historic town and it has many wealthy people. So does Rehoboth, which makes me not think that there would be homeless people there. Turns out I was wrong. I would have never thought that there were homeless people around me, but this makes me realize I need to be more aware of my surroundings and think about how others feel so I can help out and make the world a better place.

My hero is still living strong physically and in faith. She has had the "Jusst Sooup" foundation for thirteen years and she is still working hard to make it grow which shows she is very committed. Everyday her life is getting up at four and has a full day ahead of her with serving soup. Not only does she serve soup all day, but she has to worry about traveling with her RV. She has to worry about staying on task and getting her job done or else there will be starving homeless people. Dale has been married for 39 years and has four kids. She is a hard working mother and enjoys it.

Dale Dunning has changed my life by showing me that I need to be more aware of my surroundings and I need to give instead of be selfish. Also I need to take the little things in life that I have, for example a pillow, and I need to thank God that I am not out in the woods sleeping on the hard dirt floor, and that I don't have to worry about snakes crawling over me when I sleep. Dale has inspired me to help people out because in return I will be a hero to others. She gives so much and never stops giving. She says that there is no limit to people giving and to many people that is not true but she has made it true for me.
