My personal career hero is my aunt, Daisy Durkin. She is a marketing coordinator. It’s obvious that I’ve known her my whole life, but I wasn’t aware that she was a marketing coordinator until I was 12. One day I saw her working on a project for work. She was creating an advertisement for a product for her company. It looked like fun. Daisy is very creative, and so am I. That’s when I knew I wanted to become a marketing coordinator.

A marketing coordinator has to successfully assist the marketing team with various tasks such as collateral development, customer satisfaction analysis, sales programs, product development and service programs. It is quite simple to become a marketing coordinator. All you need is a high school diploma. The important skills needed are good people skills, high energy and attention to detail and excellent oral and written communication skills. They make an average salary of $32,125 - $45,093. Daisy’s goal is to become a marketing product manager, which requires a bachelor’s to a master’s degree. Depending on experience, marketing product managers can make up to $70,000 to $106,000.

As a young teen, Daisy was very intelligent. Throughout her four years of high school she maintained excellent grades. She attended Piner High School in Santa Rosa, California. She graduated with a 3.87 grade point average. Daisy received grants for her grades and got a Doyle Scholarship for college. She went to Sonoma State University and along the way, transferred to the University of Phoenix in Arizona. Daisy didn’t really have a path that she followed to enter her career. She started as a floral manager at Safeway. It wasn’t until 2009 that she changed her career. It was her interest in marketing and the skills she had when she was an employee at Safeway, that lead her to where she is now. Daisy built on her skills as a floral manager and incorporated it into becoming a marketing coordinator. She is now on the path to becoming a marketing product manager.

Daisy contributes to society in many ways. Sometimes her company arranges fundraisers. She led the fundraiser for the American Heart Association. They arranged a poker night at a hotel. To raise money, the company sold tickets. Daisy also baked for this event. All the money went directly to the fundraiser. Another fundraiser they did was for breast cancer. The company sold food and raffles tickets. All who bought raffle tickets had the opportunity to win prizes. Her career certainly helps others. Daisy is a hard worker and is loved by her co-workers. “She likes to smile and laugh,” says Tracey Bailey, co-worker. “Thanks D-Square! You’re awesome!” says Chris Ryan, co-worker. “Thanks for really stepping up to the plate,” says Peggy Prothero, 2nd Boss.

When I grow up, I want to be just like my Aunt Daisy. She’s creative, smart and independent. To become a marketing coordinator, I’ll have to finish high school and get my diploma. From there, I’ll go onto college then a university. I will major in business management. Then I’ll get my bachelor’s and master’s degree. I would like to be a marketing coordinator in the fashion department; perhaps in Macys or Nordstrom. I hope to be very successful in my future.
