Do you have a hero? Would you like to know who my hero is? Well it is a man of great honor and pride, Dwight David Eisenhower. This man is my hero because he is a strong character, and he had many heroic traits like wisdom, determination, and being an inspiration to others.

The first heroic trait Dwight David Eisenhower had is wisdom. Eisenhower was wise in many ways such as in his sayings and his decisions. For example, "All of us have heard this term preventive war. Since the earliest days of Hitler, I recall, is about the time I heard it. In this day and time, if we believe for one second that nuclear fission and fusion (that type of weapon) is such a war, then what is preventive war?"

Another one of Eisenhower's  wise sayings is "Every gun that is made, every warship launched, every rocket fired, signifies-- in the final sense-- a theft from those who hunger and are not fed, those who  are cold and are not clothed. This world in arms is not spending money alone. It is spending the sweat of its laborers, of its scientists, and the hopes of its children.  The cost of one modern heavy bomber is this; a modern brick school in more than thirty cities, two electric power plants, two hospitals, etcetera.  This is not a way of life in any true sense.  Is there no other way the world may live?"

Eisenhower was very wise in his decision making too.  Although he had never been in action himself, Eisenhower was a respected as a brilliant military strategist and a skilled political leader during the Second World War.  He successfully dealt with conflict, demands from many sides, and managed to work with such tough and determined personalities as Winston Churchill, Joseph Stalin, Gen. Bernard L. Montgomery, and Gen. George S Patton.  He had a lot of responsibility when making his decisions such as in Operation Overlord.

Another one of Eisenhower's heroic traits is that he had determination in himself.  One way he showed determination is that in 1925-26,  he attended the Command and Gen. Staff College at Fort Leavenworth, Kansas. There he graduated first out of 245 officers.  Eisenhower also had determination in his decisions.  Although he was never against the veterans, he strongly advised MacArthur against taking a public role in it.  In 1935 Eisenhower had a strong philosophical disagreement with Patton regarding the role of the Philippine army and the leadership qualities that an American officer should exhibit and develop in his subordinates. The dispute lasted the rest of their lives. He was a very strong decision maker.

The final heroic trait Dwight David Eisenhower had is that he was an inspiration to others. Eisenhower was in charge of planning and carrying out the Allied landing in Normandy, France, and the invasion of Germany. That is a lot of responsibility to take. One of his operations is D-DAY. The first part of his plan, named operation overlord was the largest sea borne operation in history. Under this plan 2.8 million allied troops from 12 nations crossed the English Channel.

My hero is a man of great honor and pride: Dwight David Eisenhower. The reason why he is my hero is that he is a strong character, and he had many heroic traits in himself like wisdom, determination, and being an inspiration to others. His legacy still continues to this day.
