Dan Eldon once said, "To explore the unknown and the familiar distant and near and to record in detail with the eyes of a child, and beauty, (of the flesh or otherwise) horror, irony, traces of utopia or hell. Select your team with care, but when in doubt, take on some new crew and give them a chance. But avoid at all cots fluctuations of sincerity with your but people." He was an artist, activist, inspirational and an abundance of other characteristics that made him the man he was. Dan Eldon was inspirational because he turned his passion into a career.

Dan Eldon brought out the best in people. He could always bring a smile on everyone's faces. Even though his life was short, Eldon lived his life with voracious passion (Dan). He got his first camera when he was six years old. When he was twelve, he got his first photograph in "The Nation." That's where it all began.

September of 1985, Dan started his first "visual" journal. It's where he kept his drawings, photographs and his experiences. Dan Eldon led an aide mission across Africa. He worked as a graphic designer for Mademoiselle Magazine; he published a book and directed a movie. Dan Eldon made a difference in the world

At the age of 22, Eldon was stoned to death in Mogadishu, Somalia. On July 12, 1993, U.N. troops bombed a house, which was thought to be the headquarters for the warlord known as Gen. Mohammed Farah Aidid. Eldon and three other journalists were sent to the scene to record the carnage. They were met by an angry mob of more than 100 people. Eldon was expecting a Reuter's photographer to replace him that day (CNN).

Dan Eldon was and still is inspirational because he turned his passion into a career. He lived his life how he wanted, exciting with many experiences that changed his life along with many others. Imagine how our lives would be today, how different it would have been if that photographer had gotten there earlier. To have someone that heroic by doing something they love is proof that it can still happen today.
