Darrell Green

Okay; so what! It's football! Boys get dirty, they get hurt, they run and play. Boys, and men choose to tackle each other ,and play rough; that's considered fun for them. It has no purpose and has no lesson. Who would have known out of all these boys there would be a purpose to his desire of simply playing rough in a game of football. NFL Redskins football player, Darrell Green, turned out to be one of those lucky boys. Darrell Green positioned in the lineup as a cornerback for 20 years. He retired and announced '"This has been the most incredible day in my life because I just started off just wanting to be a good football player, like most kids would want to be, and realized that God has more in plan for me"'(Darrell Green Contemporary). A hero's features must be selfless and willing instinctive. Darrell Green invested his retirement time to give the necessary resources to children in need through his devotion towards doing more in his life time, opening doors to others that are hard to care for, and by the positive results of opening the foundation makes him an inspiring hero.

A hero can be described in many ways, but one aspect of a hero should contain his devotion towards doing more in his life. Besides being retired Tampa Bay Times adds that, "He also is active with Big Brothers of America. In 1998, Green completed a bachelor's degree in general studies and social science at St. Paul's College in Lawrenceville, Va., and has an honorary doctorate from Marymount University in Arlington, Va" (Darrell Green's not too small to be in football's Hall). Green is involved in many activities such as this to support his community and keep a stable and secure life that inspires others to get involved in their community to show their contribution toward their community. Green is also very supportive and helpful to his community, he often shows through his actions of caringness he has for them. Green doesn't stop there he goes above and beyond: "Fairfax, VA MainStreet Bank (OTC Bulletin Board: MNSB) announced that NFL Hall of Famer Darrell Green has joined the Board of Directors of MainStreet Bank. Mr. Green was a founding shareholder of the bank with continued strong ties to the institution" (Darrell Green Joins Board of MainStreet Bank). MainStreet announces the adjoining between them and Darrell Green. Darrell was a continuing shareholder that has experience in management. Green shares his one of many skills with Mainstreet and was thrilled to be working with Green.Green provides one of his many skills to others to share his knowledge so that that business can be successful. The retired Redskins cornerback, Darrell Green, continues to provide to his community by being apart of many different extracurricular activities so he can continue to walk the path of God and strengthen the community into a stable condition.

Another aspect a hero should contain is the effort to opening doors to others that are hard to care for. Darrell Green has this aspect because when there is people in need he always helps them such as: "Green went on to talk briefly about the bank's newest product - aircharity, saying; "I recently had cause to open an aircharity account for a college football friend who had been in a bad car accident. It was so easy to get up and running; and we raised a lot of money for my friend" (Darrell Green Joins Board of Mainstreet Bank). MainStreet states that in college Darrell had a friend in college that got in a car accident and so he decided to design a charity called aircharity as this happened, enough money was raised for Darrell's friend. Green's efforts to opening doors to others shows the selflessness he has. His actions show the respect and concerns his has for others rather than himself. His dedication and time is shown through "His passionate commitment to strengthening families and helping children is at the center of his long-range goals and was the impetus for the founding of the Darrell Green Youth Life Foundation (DGYLF)" (Darrell Green Leading Authorities). Leading Authorities continues to describe Darrell's caring purposes for the Youth Life Foundation such as strengthening families and helping children. The strengthening of families helps for the community to stay strong, and believe that there is hope for others in need. Darrell Green willingly helps to helps strengthen families and help boys and girls without hesitance. Darrell Green is a man who you can depend on when in need no matter what situation you're in.

The last containing aspect a hero must have a purpose to the end results of their progress and must he happy. Like any hero, Darrell Green's idea impacted the community and spread into new territories and the stats say: "By now the DGYLF had expanded to five learning centers offering after school help and summer programs in different cities across the country. And there were three more planned by 2009. Green also opened the Youth Life Foundation Training Institute, which trains volunteers and other like-minded people to establish community-learning centers of their own" (Watkins, Michael).Watkins says how much the foundation has expanded through cities across the country. There are many different summer programs and open-minded volunteers. Darrell has inspired his community and many others to create learning centers to help other children of this generation have the necessary resources they have in order to be successful. Darrell goes on to describe the many different resources provided at the learning center: "The DGYLF provides a wide-range of academic development and values-based education programs through learning centers operating in select urban, suburban, and rural neighborhoods throughout America. Mr. Green considers the Darrell Green Youth Life Learning Center (DGLC) the centerpiece of the DGYLF" (Darrell Green Leading Authorities).Leading Authorities states some of the resources at the foundation that have been created to help anyone from anywhere. Some learning programs are located in suburban areas and rural areas. Opening learning centers in your community helps to shows the quantity of access the community would have for more success for minors. As Darrell opened the foundation, people created their own learning centers like it and the idea spread through all cities in America and many open-minded volunteers appeared. The foundation offered to help anyone in need.

As its said Darrell Green provides for his community in any way he can and continues to be the best he can be by strengthening and providing others with the resources they need. Darrell Green is a hero because of these aspects he possesses. His characteristics shows the kind, caring, devoted person he is truly. Darrell Green is truly an inspiring hero that I envy; Green exemplifies the honorary characteristic of giving that most people think is truly a burden on one's own self. He cares for all such as: "Part of that plan is the Darrell Green Youth Life Foundation, a faith-based charitable organization that operates Youth Life Learning Centers to support and nurture children in need" (Darrell Green Contemporary). As I have done this essay i've learned much more about my hero then intended but this inspires me to help others more than myself and provide more for my community like Darrell Green did.
