David Ho

by Will from Cincinnati

Imagine, you live in a society where HIV is plaguing society like the Black Death. All you want to do is help. So what can you do to help? Make Cocktails.

Dr. Ho was born In Taiwan, and immigrated to America when he was five, and only met his father when he was thirteen. He was made chief executive officer and scientific director, in Aaron Diamond Research Centers, in New York City.

Dr. Ho met his father at the age of thirteen, so unfortunately he didn't have a father figure like that for most of his childhood. When he came to America he was confused about what he wanted to do with his life. To add on to his struggles, he didn't learn English until about five years after he immigrated to the U.S.A.

David went to MIT and Caltech to receive his bachelor of science degree. His main accomplishment is the one I chose him for, and that would be the creation of cocktails. Cocktails (antiretroviral therapy) break down and destroy HIV and AIDS in their early stages. Finally, he was named Times 1996 Man of the Year.

I believe that he possesses quiet bravery. He is not rich or powerful in the way society thinks of power. He is smart, he is good with machines, and best of all, he is good hearted. He is important to me because he helps so many people. If everyone made a difference in the same way as David, we would be in a world of peace. I believe that the best quote came from David himself. He stated that, "The failure to address the modern plague known as HIV is an act of irresponsibility that will be judged by history."

Thank you..
