Hero, it sounds glorious and fantastic, like a holy grail of a person. A hero is never defeated. They never have to ask for help or have any problems right? I don't think so, to me a hero is someone who if they went through something terrible, got back up, dusted themselves off (asked for help if they needed it) and did something to make sure that this didn't happen to others. This is why Demi Lovato is my hero.

Demi was born in Albuquerque, New Mexico on August 20th, 1992 and was then raised in Dallas, Texas with her older sister Dallas and her younger sister Madison. Demi started into the music and acting business young, at age seven she started playing piano and appeared in 2 seasons of Barney & Friends. Then not too long after she landed some minor roles in Disney programming. However it wasn't long before she became really well known for landing the role in the Camp Rock movies. This lead to her own T.V. sitcom called Sonny with a Chance, and in 2009 she starred in the movie Princess Protection Program. While all this was going on this was also recording music as a solo artist starting with Don't Forget in September, 2008 and then with Here We Go Again in July, 2009. Her third and most recent album called Unbroken came out in September of 2011. With all these amazing thing you would think that she would be on top of the world, but Demi had some real personal demons during all of this that she was trying to deal with.

Demi had been bullied since she was very young and as result at the young age of 8 she developed a very unhealthy relationship with food which later led to eating disorders. The bullying continued to get worse as she got older and at age 11 she started self harming by cutting her wrists. This got worse and worse until seventh grade when she couldn't deal anymore and she got her mom to home school her. However, the things that those bullies had said to her followed her around and she continued to starve and cut herself in following years as she grew in notoriety. In fact the more time she spent in front of a camera the worse it got. She began self medicating and drinking quite a bit in a effort to numb the pain. This continued until October of 2010 when she got in a confrontation with a backup dancer on the Jonas Brothers Live in Concert Tour and was confronted by her managers and step father. At this point Lovato realised she could not continue like this, dropped out the tour and checked herself into rehab. It was there that she learned that she had bipolar disorder and learned to deal with the pain she had been carrying for so long.

After her time in rehab she begin to gain control over her life and became a spokesperson for Love is Louder, a campaign to help people overcome bulling. Not only that but she has been very honest about her struggles in an effort to help other teens realise that they are not alone, and that there is a healthy way of dealing with your problem and even released a documentary called Stay Strong about her struggles on MTV.

All in all I think that this show that Demi is a hero because she went through some serious struggles but used them to help others. She has helped may teenagers realise that there are better answers to their problem and has brought more awareness to issues that were once in the dark. She is an inspiration and a hero to anyone who has ever dealt with a personal demon.
