David Pearson

by Chava from Essex Junction

David Pearson is my hero. David and his wife Debby own Green Mountain Harley Davidson. He grew up in Canada with two siblings. When he moved to the United States, he was 18. A couple years later, he got into a serious motorcycle accident. He was lucky enough to have friends to help him with transportation, food, bills, etc. Ever since that happened, he wanted to be able to give help to others in similar situations.

The opportunity to help others came in 2009 when a Vermont rider hit a moose on his motorcycle . Riders from all over the state came together to help support him. This is how the Moose Foundation got its name. Since 2009, the Moose Foundation has supported over 30 injured riders in Vermont. They help with medical expenses, transportation and financial problems. This foundation is run all by donations.

In an interview with David, I asked him what kinds of things he does for this foundation. David along with two others started this foundation which is pretty amazing! David manages finances (donations), searches for people who could use some help, and he decides how much help a person really needs. I think it's really crazy how motorcycle riders can act just like a family. You have to really care about a cause to run a foundation about it!

I asked him what he plans to do with this foundation, what are his goals. He said his ultimate goal would be to have his foundation be nationwide because, as of right now, the Moose Foundation is only in Vermont. One of the Moose Foundation's biggest challenges is raising money. With any organization that is run by donation, it is always complicated to have enough funds to really help.

When I asked David what his favorite part of this foundation was, he said, "It's cool to be able to help people get back on their feet, and wheels." I really liked that he said that; I thought it showed that he truly cares about the people he helps. I've known David since I was about 9, and I didn't realize how much of a hero he is. If someone got into a motorcycle accident and was struggling, the Moose Foundation would truly help. I think this organization is incredible. That is why David Pearson is my Hero.
