David Unfred

by Tyler from Grain Valley

He is a scientist; he is a grandfather; he is a hero. Thinking not of himself, he works to serve others. I have picked David Unfred as my hero because not only does he care about me, but he also works very hard at his job. Known to his students as Dr. U, this commendable man has the answer to almost all of my questions and has taught me many things, from information concerning the Bible to how to skin a snake. “Hard at work” is a phrase that amply describes him while he teaching his students about science, writing resources that help others strengthen their belief in Jesus Christ, and giving attention to me.

David Unfred shows his students many different things, writes books about the Creator, and constantly shares a mentoring relationship with me. As he teaches at Trinity Christian School and Wayland University in Lubbock, Texas, he lectures on a variety of subjects, from science to education training. In the book that he wrote, Dinosaurs and the Bible, he reviews many key concepts involving dinosaurs and their history. Science in the Creation Week is the other major book that my grandfather wrote, which goes through the seven days of Creation using a step-by-step approach aimed toward elementary students. His teaching has impacted the lives of many, including me. But he does more than teach me. He cares for me. When I visit my grandfather’s house, he takes time to talk to me and answer the questions that I bring before him. At my home I can always call him, and he is there to resolve any query that I might have. Teaching students, writing books, and caring for me are some of the things that my grandfather does.

In conclusion, I have chosen my grandfather as my hero because of many desirable traits that exemplify his walk as a Christian. As a wonderful example to others, he trains people and strengthens them with a biblical perspective, instructing them with fundamental aspects that they will build upon for the rest of their lives. He has transformed that teaching into books that will stand for an enormous amount of time, speaking unchanging truths to their reader. Not only does he teach through his speeches and books, but he also cares for me, his grandson, and tries hard to spend time with me, like when we went out together at an old farm that my family owned. Through his examples in these areas, anyone can tell that David Unfred is my grandfather, Dr. U: scientist and hero.
