Derek Jeter is one of the best shortstops in Major League Baseball. He is what I want to become. He is my hero because he is my favorite player, and I also play shortstop. Off the field, he does his best to help others.

Derek Jeter isn't just a good fielder. Out of the 2,167 games he has played, with 8,787 at bats, he has earned 2,785 hits which gives him a .317 batting average. It may not seem a lot, but that is pretty hard to do.

Derek Jeter made the Turn 2 foundation to help kids stay active, and away from substances such as drugs and alcohol. The YMCA, Boys and Girls Club of Kalamazoo and the Bronx has helped the Turn 2 foundation reach out to kids and teens. Derek Jeter's father, was once a drug abuse counselor. He knows a lot about substances and is the President of the foundation. The Turn 2 foundation got its name from the double play in baseball.

I chose Derek Jeter to be my hero because he is a good role model for me. He has helped many children and teens get away from drugs and alcohol with the creation of his foundation. He is a good sportsman by not being cocky, and he has never taken steroids. It is hard to be the man he is today. But I can promise that I am going to try my best to be just like him.
