My hero is Derrek Leon Lee. He was born on September 6, 1975 in Sacramento, California. Derrek Lee is a professional baseball player. He was influenced by his father, Leon Lee, who played professional ball in Japan. Lee’s position is first base, which is my favorite position. Now that he is playing for the Chicago Cubs, I have paid more attention to his life. Unfortunately, now his daughter, Jada Lee, has a very rare disease called Leber Congenital Amaurosis (LCA) which causes you to lose your vision.

As a professional baseball player Lee has started a fundraiser called Project 3000. Project 3000 raises money for the disease his daughter has. This really inspired me because I have a cousin with special needs, and I hope one day that I can start a fundraiser for him. Lee is also a hero to the Cubs because he is a great baseball player. In my opinion he plays one of the most important positions in baseball. Right now, Lee lives in Chicago because he is currently playing for the Chicago Cubs.

Derrek Lee is my hero because he has impacted my life in two ways. One of the ways is by starting a fundraiser for children with the LCA disease. This impacted me because now I want to start a fundraiser for children with autism. The second way he influenced my life is by playing professional baseball. He has helped the Cubs play some great games which brings joy to all the Chicago Cubs’ fans. That is why my hero is Derrek Leon Lee.
