Derek Lee

Derek Leon Lee was born on September 6, 1975, and currently plays baseball in the Major Leagues and plays for the Chicago Cubs. This season he has hit 33 home runs and has 98 RBI

He plays first base and has a career batting average of .284 and has hit 289 home runs. In the 1993 draft he was drafted 14th by the Florida Marlins and then was traded to the Cubs. Derek weighs 245 and his height is 6-5 and he bats and throws right handed.

Derek will play many more years and is heading for a successful career. Derek is my hero because he was the first person I ever saw play the game and got me interested in baseball and is my favorite modern day player and will hopefully play a lot longer. Derek will always be my hero.

Derek Lee is married to Ingrid Lee and they have two children: Katherine and Mackenzie Lee. His father's name is Leon Lee. Derek's dad has never played in the majors but is a scout in Japan who discovered Hee Seop Choi who was later traded for Derek.

in 2006 his three year old daughter was diagnosed with lebers congenital amaurosis, which is a genetic disease that results in a loss of vision. Derek and Boston Celtics co-owner and CEO with the university of Iowa started a project called project 3000. Lee starred in an episode of ER to pay for funds for his daughter's sickness because it would cost 1,000,000 dollars. Lee discovered she was getting misdiagnosed and the disease was gone. I hope Derek plays for a long time.
