Big Papi |
I'm going to give you information about David Ortiz's life. He Plays for the Boston Red Sox. He is one of the best players ever!
I'm going to tell you about his early years. He was born on November 18, 1975, Santo Domingo, Dominican Republic. As a kid he watched his father Enrique play in Semi-Pro & minor league games. He often rooted for hometown sports heroes, the Martinez brothers, Ramon & Pedro. Many years later, he became friends with Pedro. As a young kid he started becoming a natural slugger. He then entered Estudia Espallet High School. After that he entered another successful sport, High School basketball. He soon became a star at basketball. When his career in basketball came to an end, he played baseball. Any pitch he couldn't drive he'd use his quick powerful hands to spray lasers over the infield or outfield. Then a Mariners scout saw him play and scouted him as a non-drafted free agent.
Now that you've learned what his childhood was like this is what his success was as a Major League Baseball player. After getting left by the Mariners and forgotten by the Twins, Ortiz was signed with the Boston Red Sox in 2003. At bat left & throwing left, he has been a dangerous batter. He once said, "When you can come through in these situations people really appreciate it." For his 1st 4 seasons he hit .294 with 74 homers. As he got better he was promoted to designated hitter, wearing the #34 uniform.
Now I will tell you what he does for his fans. During the 2005 season he was nicknamed "Big Papi" for his dedicated hard work. His team's owner, John Henry read from a plaque, "The best clutch hitter in Red Sox history." It was later given to Ortiz. During his season teams grew afraid of Ortiz's monstrous hits & runs.
I chose David Americo Arias Ortiz because he inspired me to become the best ball player I could be. He is a very hard working player. He is one of the League's scariest hitters and with that comes respect. Ortiz has gone through 2 other teams: the Minnesota Twins & Seattle Mariners. Soon, he chose a different path to go onto my favorite team, the Boston Red Sox! Apparently he's best there. There are kids that look up to him as an idol. He is a very fit & powerful batter. That is why I chose David Americo Arias Ortiz to be my hero.
Those are all my facts about David Ortiz. I will close my story with my own personnel opinions. For me personally David Ortiz is one of the best designated hitters. He had an awesome childhood. And being accepted into the Major Leagues in High School is very special. I am now finished with my report. Any questions?
