Dad, a Hero to Remember

by David from St. Louis

“If the result is not what you wanted, there is always next time”.

My dad, he does so much and is always there for support. He helps with decisions about life, school, and tragedies. He has become more involved in my life since the age of nine until now, for example, now he helps with sports training. He demonstrates how to do new exercises and helps with weight training. He does whatever he can to bring out one hundred percent of my ability. My dad is a hero because he is a positive influence in life and games.

He sacrifices his time for the whole family. My dad takes off work to tape my football games. Then at home, we play the tapes and go over them, trying to make improvements. Also in first grade, I was hospitalized and he took off three days to sit in the intensive care room. It was nice having him there to give a feeling of comfort and that everything was going to be alright. He really is a good father and these are only a few sacrifices that he makes.

Another way that he helps out is with school work. He takes the time to help me understand my math homework. For example, Geometry is not an easy subject and he takes the time to help understand how to work the problems and learn the formulas. He actually is a very affective math teacher. Thanks to the time he put into teaching me, I passed the first math test of the year.

When my dog died, he helped the family work through our grief. Kadie arrived at our house fourteen years ago. She died on January 18, 2006 and he helped us to see that it was best that she was put down because she had arthritis and a stroke. We are still sad when he tells the story of how he woke up and saw her barely able to stand. He tells us, “She was falling into the furniture and walls and had a look in her eyes saying help me, but I could do nothing”. We were very attached to Kadie and were glad he was there to help.

My dad is a hero because he is a big inspiration. He always says to do the right thing though it might not always be “cool”. He always gives advice to do your best and tells me, “If the result is not what you wanted, there is always next time”. His advice has been really helpful in high school. This is why my dad is a hero.
