He was very powerful but not a tyrant. He brought many great innovations to Iran, such as a legal code and a new system of administration. He started many buildings during his reign and built a new capital city which was named Persepolis. This city had walls which were sixty feet high and thirty feet thick. He dug a canal from the Nile to Suez and his ships sailed from the Nile through the Red Sea by Saba to Persia. Darius also made lots of roads that were all over the country.

Darius says to his son in his will: "For being successful in your kingdom don’t interfere in the religion and manner of people. Be kind and polite with your mother. The power of a kingdom is not only to have a powerful army, but also is to have rich treasures. Be honest with your people and don’t tell them a lie."

These points were very interesting for me in Darius’ will and that’s why I chose Darius as my hero. These words made me think about not lying in any situation and made me be an honest person even though it might seem not in my benefit there. In fact I thought if a person as the King of a country could be honest and therefore becomes trustworthy, why can’t I be the same!!
