David

by Adam from Minnesota

David is an inspirational person to me for quite a few reasons. Number one, he was a fantastic musician. He knew how to play dozens of instruments, and he played them all for the glory of God! And through the songs (Psalms) he wrote he's inspired millions of pastors, artists, and aspiring musicians such as myself to be better people because we can relate to him! He went through hard times, scary situations, and stuck with the Lord through it all. Sometimes he even sinned outright in God's face, but even when he did that, he came back and pleaded for forgiveness and got it. David was a human being, and I think sometimes we all get the idea that the people written about in the bible are like 'Super Humans', which couldn't be farther from the truth, they are just like us, regular people they just experience crazy things!

Number two, David was courageous. We all have heard the story of how he faced the Giant known as Goliath. Let's take a look at it again shall we? So there is this Giant that no one can defeat, and everyone is afraid of. Understandable since Goliath was a GIANT, he probably towered over most of everyone, even the tallest people. So let's look at some of the elements of battle. I'll share an advantage that David may have against the Goliath if he chooses to fight him. The Advantage; Surprise. One of the biggest advantages one can have against an enemy, is surprise, catching them unawares when they aren't ready. Perhaps if David caught Goliath off guard he could kill the giant before it even knew what hit him? But David doesn't bother about the Advantage, instead, guess what David does? He actually calls Goliath out! Destroying pretty much any advantage he has against the behemoth. The best part is, David wins without laying a hand or sword on Goliath. He instead flings a little smooth stone from a river, striking Goliath in the head, and topples the Giant. Quite an amazing story if you ask me. Because what if the stone had bounced off leaving the giant standing even angrier than before? What if the Giant dodged the projectile? David ignored these risks, putting his faith in the Lord and, with his fears behind him, he defeated the Giant. This took what I like to call "Crazy Courage".

It would be impossible for me to mention everything David accomplished in one essay. But I really encourage people to read about him in the bible. David sinned and killed, but when David would come asking for forgiveness brokenhearted, the Lord forgave him.... David was a seasoned warrior, an experienced musician, servant of the Almighty, a songwriter, and a dancer... All for his King, David the King made himself a servant of God, constantly making mistakes, but never would fail to run to God heartbroken asking forgiveness. And God being great in his loving kindness accepted the King back every time! You may be thinking "David doesn't sound like much of a hero." But he was. Because he was just like you and me, but he faced everything with a pure heart and crazy courage.

We've all heard the story of the young boy named David and the mighty Goliath, and how just a stone fell the huge man. But I think that is as far as some people get when they are learning about David. This makes me sad because he was so much more then just a boy with a sling! He was an insane musician, knowing how to play dozens of instruments, and wrote many songs. Many of his prayers written in Psalms were very intense, and don't fit in the 'nice prayer' mold we have all made... This is David, a king, a worshiper, a musician, a warrior, an inspiration.
