Dr. Dean R. Hirsch is the president and chief executive officer of World Vision International. This global organization is devoted to serving the needs of the world’s poorest people. Due to much of Dr. Hirsch’s efforts, World Vision International assisted nearly 100 million people in 97 countries last year. As a man who has a lot of influence and power, Hirsch has stayed true to his Christian background and upbringing in his role as a leader.

He has accomplished many goals during his time as World Vision International’s President. Under his leadership, World Vision’s income has tripled, allowing the organization to provide a variety of resources to the world’s poorest people. These resources include health care, education, clean water, emergency funds, tools and shelter. Dr. Hirsch has set up aide in some the neediest countries. He has done his best to help alleviate children from the suffering of abuse, neglect, and HIV/AIDS. He has worked with famine relief programs in Ethiopia, AIDS prevention efforts in Africa and Asia, and peace building programs in countries such as Rwanda. During Hirsch’s term as president, he has recruited sponsors for nearly 2.6 million children. The improvement and support that Dr. Hirsch has provided demonstrate his success as the International President of World Vision.

Dr. Dean R. Hirsch resides in Southern California where the headquarters of World Vision International are located. As president, Hirsch frequently travels to many countries to fulfill his duties as the chief executive officer, but he returns home to California on a regular basis to be with his family.

Dr. Hirsch is important to me because of his work with needy people. He has never failed to take the next step in his career and shown that a tremendous difference can be made in a short amount of time. Although Hirsch (59) resides in California, he is also a part of the Whitworth University community. His son is a senior at Whitworth and is studying psychology. Luckily, I have had the opportunity to meet Dr. Hirsch. His influence and power were overwhelming to me because he is such a successful and giving man. Not only is Dr. Hirsch connected to the Whitworth community, he is also connected to many cultures around the world. He is widely respected and considered one of our nation’s most influential people. His actions and policies have changed the face of our world for the better and provided relief to millions of people. This successful Christian man is deserving of being my hero because of his dedication to serving human needs all around our world. Dr. Dean Hirsch strives to make our world a better and healthier place.
