Donald Slaughter

by Marc from Blue Sky

Everyone has a role model figure or a hero in his or her life, someone they look up to in a way. My hero would have to be a man named Donald D. Slaughter, my dad. My dad is a man of many morals and great respect. He believes in what is right and acts on his judgment of the “the right call”. This man, with the ability to help anyone he can teach, has taught me many useful skills and lessons that I will eventually be able to pass on to my children.

My dad started in on me young, and oh boy did I need it. I wasn’t a little devil child but I was quit a hellion, as are most of us. I remember strict punishments for wrong choices and some reward for good choices. I can say that my dad never beat me although he was a firm believer in “the spanking”. This is probably the reason his morals and lessons stuck so well with me.

One important thing my dad has taught me has been respect, and all of the elements that go with respect. Because of him I know how to show respect and I know who should be respected. Respect is a key element in going somewhere in life. If you do not show any respect you will not have any respect and you will not be treated very well at all.

Even though my dad was busy teaching me all about morals and respect, he managed to teach me all about the guy things in life, well not necessarily only “guy things” but they are considered that. My father was my first hunting partner and he was always there to try to help with homework. When I played basketball for the school, he was always helping my coaches with practice drills and other things to push the team to victory.

So when asked about my role model and my hero, there is simply one word…Dad, Because I couldn’t ask for a better person to have brought me in to the world. He cares so much about my success and never wants to see me fail. When I grow old I hope my children will write about me the way I have written about him.
