My hero is Landon Donovan. He has these traits for being my hero: he has sacrificed, courage, leadership, self discipline, inspiration, overcomes, selfless, and passion.

He has sacrificed his time to play for the U.S. international soccer team. Because teams in Europe and Mexico offered him money to play for their teams. But Landon Donovan said no and turned the offer down. He said he turned the offer down because he wants to make soccer more popular in the U.S. He also said so he can win a world cup for the U.S. team so other teams from other countries don’t look at our team and laugh. Because if you look at history, the U.S.A. hasn’t won a world cup so the other teams laugh at us as well as other countries.

Also he has courage to go out there and play soccer for the U.S. soccer team. Because when they play tough teams like Mexico or Italy he plays his best no matter what. If he plays against the hardest team in the world he would still play his hardest and hope to win. The reason why I think Landon Donovan has so much courage is that there was this one time it was an away game against Mexico and the U.S. team didn’t have many fans coming to support them and they still went out there and played their hardest. Landon Donovan still had courage to assist a goal and he scored one himself and then U.S.A. beat Mexico. The score was 2-0, the U.S. hard work paid off. He has leadership because he is the team captain of the United States international team and for the MLS team L.A. galaxy. He has lead the team into wins and into discipline. Because when the team loses a game and the other players on his team want to start trouble, he would calm them down and say words like, "we will get them next time we play them," or "leave it all on the field." And if the team wins and the team wants to rub it into the other teams faces he would say, "that’s not right. Celebrate after the game. We all played our hardest show some respect." He has self discipline because in no matter what situation in the game, Donovan has never showed any disrespect to the referees and never shows disrespect to the players. Landon Donovan is inspirational because whenever he plays he plays for a country that is great and that has great pride and Donovan tries his best to win and not to lose. He inspires me to play my hardest and win and play with my heart. He plays his hardest no matter what. And other people say he stinks and he still goes out there and plays his hardest and has great pride for his country. This is why Landon Donovan is an inspiration. He is selfless because teams in Europe and Mexico offered him money to play for their league teams and he said no. He turned their offer down because he said, "instead I want to devote all my time into the U.S. soccer because I want to make soccer big here. The U.S. is all about football, baseball, and all those other sports and our soccer team doesn’t get much support. And if I stay and try to win world cup soccer will get more popular and other countries won't laugh at our soccer team like were nothing." And that is why he is selfless. In conclusion I believe Landon Donovan is my hero because he is an outstanding soccer player. He inspires and he is a person that just has a great heart for soccer and great pride for his country.

Landon Donovan’s life 1. March 4th 1982: Landon Donovan was born.

2. 1997: when he turned 15 he was accepted to the U.S. Soccer Olympic development program.

3. 1998: he was the youngest to play for the U.S. International soccer team. And he played against Mexico and scored his first official goal.

4. 1999: Landon Donovan and Demarcus Beasley had become friends and they both have become star forwards.

5. 2001: he had come back to the U.S. to play for the San Jose earthquakes.

6. 2002: Landon Donovan has earned man of the match and the U.S. reaches the quarter finals of the world cup.

7. 2003: returned to Germany to play.

8. 2005: he has returned from Germany to play for the either for the San Jose earthquakes or L.A. Galaxy because the two teams want him and Landon Donovan is trying to decide. Then he chooses L.A. Galaxy.

9. 2006: he has become the best known player on the U.S. international soccer team.

10. 2007: still playing for L.A. galaxy and the U.S. team and he is the team captain for both teams.
