Eleanor Roosevelt

Do you know who the greatest first lady was? It was Eleanor Roosevelt and she changed our lives in many ways. She co-chaired a national committee, she made innumerable visits to civilian and military centers, and she supported more opportunities for African Americans and women.

Eleanor Roosevelt was born on October 11,1884 in New York City. Eleanor really respected African Americans and women and thought they should have equal rights. Her famous role as a spokesperson for women led her to stop publicly attacking the Equal Rights Amendment, that she opposed. She was a great woman for doing things not only herself but for others too, because it shows that she doesn't only care about herself like other people often do.

She continued to stay in politics until she died on November 7, 1962. During the time she was in politics, she did many things. On September 20, 1948 she spoke on the behalf of the Declaration which she called, "The International Magna Carta of all mankind." On March 17, 1905, she married Franklin D. Roosevelt and later had six children.

She is important to me because she made a difference in our lives. She made sure that women and African Americans have the same rights as others. She fought for her rights instead of getting them the easy way like other people. Without Eleanor women wouldn't have had the same rights as men.

Eleanor Roosevelt was the greatest women ever and got named the first lady for it. She is not only a hero to me but a hero to many others. Without her ambition to do what she did the world would have never changed.
