Ellen Church

“It was the beginning of the Depression, and a job was a job. Flying was a new thing. People would line up to see us come in,” said Margaret Arnott, one of the eight original sky girls.

Ellen Church

A hero is a man or women distinguished by exceptional courage and nobility and strength. Ellen Church is one of those people. She was a nurse in San Francisco and then became a Flight nurse. She was also a accomplished nurse. Ellen Church had exceptional strength.

Ellen was not only adored by those personally close to her, but also by her patients. Ellen Church was one of several nurses to take flight. Eighteen years later she was grounded due to a car accident. After the accident, instead of giving up, she obtained her degree in Nursing at the University of Minnesota. She won a Air medal for bravery and there s a place in her honor the municipal airport serving Cresco is named Ellen Church Field.

Ellen Church was born September 22, 1904. She was born on a small farm in Cresco, Iowa. When she was born there were a lot of events going on at that time like World War I. She got married to Leonard Briggs Marshall; they did not have kids.

Ellen Church is important to me for many reasons. Ellen Church helped people realize that women were capable of being more than just housewives. She opened the eyes of women so they could have more opportunities. This is why Ellen Church is my hero.
