Edward Cullen

by Hannah and Anika from Spring Grove, IL

“If leaving is the right thing to do, then I’ll hurt myself to keep from hurting you, to keep you safe.” -Edward Cullen

Have you ever read a book and the was this one character who seems like they would be a hero if they were real? I recently read a series and throughout every book I couldn’t help wishing for him to exist. My hero’s name is Edward Cullen. He starred in the books Twilight, New Moon, Eclipse, and Breaking Dawn. Within those four books I fell in love with the qualities he expressed, as I’m sure you would too.

Edward is a hero in my eyes mainly because of how he treats other people. He never intentionally hurts someone, physically or verbally. He was born in 1901 and is living in the 2009 era, so he thinks before he acts; something that’s hard to come about these days. Through thick and thin he was always willing to put his life on the line for the ones he loved. He shows bravery and determination through much of the story. One area we found this in, was the book Eclipse, Edward was always going to be there for the girl he loved, whether or not she would be there for him. “By the way, I’m not leaving you.” –Edward.

Another reason I consider Edward a hero is because he looks at life from a different perspective and is very creative. He shows this by being able to be satisfied by the little things. Edward is deeply in love with Bella, and can always find and original way to show her that. One way he showed her this, is by giving her a diamond that sparkled in the light. This is a symbol because he’s ice cold and his skin glitters in the sunlight. Edward wanted her to know that he would always be with her.

My opinion is that the world needs more Edwards. These qualities are hard to find in just anyone today, we should cherish the few that we do find. Enjoy the small things, be original, treat others with respect, and think about others before yourself. Traits such as these are what makes and hero in my book.
