     A hero, an inspiration, a comedian, and an internationally loved Covergirl. Ellen Degeneres lives her life under the basic principles of happiness, kindness, and helping others. The world is a better place because of Ellen Degeneres.

     Born January 26, 1958 Metairie, Louisiana, Ellen Lee Degeneres did not have it easy at first. Her parents divorced at age 13 and she and her sister moved to live with her mother while her brother stayed with her father. Ellen discovered her inner comedian when she was at a public speaking event and got nervous. She got out of it by using her sense of humor. Ellen then went on to make a name for herself. She made her television premiere on The Tonight show starring Jimmy Carson. She later signed for a sitcom called Ellen. Her sitcom was a hit and she earned a larger fan base. The sitcom sadly ended soon after she publicly confirmed she was gay. She received a lot of hate but Ellen Degeneres is no liar and no quitter. Ellen Degeneres is my hero because she is honest, giving, and an inspiration to millions of people.

     To begin with, Ellen is honest because she told the word she is gay. On April 1997, Ellen came out. One may say that she is not honest because she pretended to be straight for several years. However, Ellen was brave and honest enough to come out at all. "DeGeneres is the bravest and most honest female comedian I have ever seen work because she publicly announced she's gay. That revelation could have ended her career, as she had to be aware, but she also knew she had to be honest," as Bob Newhart, her inspiration, said.  She could have pretended to be something she was not out of fear of criticism from the media. Ellen's honesty is another reason she is my hero.

     Ellen is also famous for her giving personality. She supports over 44 charities and continues to support more. She and her sponsors donate thousands of dollars to people in need. Ellen supports over 30 causes: animal protection, ending bullying, curing cancer, disaster relief, ending hunger, etc. She will even bring honorable people on their show to help raise awareness and donate to their cause. Every holiday season she has a "Twelve Days of Giveaways" where she gives thousands of dollars worth of gifts to her audience and will later give a deserving family all of the same gifts. Clearly, Ellen Degeneres is very generous and giving.

     As well as being very honest and giving, Ellen is a huge inspiration to millions. Each and every day, Ellen reaches out to her extremely large audience and encourages them to "Be kind to one another" and to help others. Ellen is inspirational because of her honesty, bravery, giving personality, positive attitude, sense of humor, and her unbeatable ability to make everyone smile. For example, thousands of gays have come out thanks to Ellen's encouragement of not living in fear of criticism. Without the inspiration of Ellen, millions of people would not be living as happy of a life as they are today
