Ella Fitzgerald

by Max from San Diego

Ella Fitzgerald grew up in a place where no one felt for each other and no one cared for one another. When she was 16 she found her passion for jazz singing at a talent show and started her career in music. Ella Fitzgerald was the best jazz singer in the world she sold over 100,000 albums every time that she put a new record out to the public. The flawless voice and delivery of singer Ella Fitzgerald is woven tightly into the tapestry of American popular music. Born in Virginia, and raised in Yonkers, New York, Fitzgerald was discovered at the age of sixteen while singing in a talent contest at the Apollo Theater in Harlem. She quickly joined the Chick Webb band in 1935,and started recording her first song "Love and Kisses" in 1935.A hero must possess kindness and a good heart. Ella Fitzgerald possesses both kindness and helpfulness; therefore, she is a hero.

Ella Fitzgerald was born on April 25 1918, she grew up in not the most kid friendly environment. Her parents didn't care for each other and when her father died she sunk into a deep hole. Her grades were dropping and she skipped school more than she went. But she still cared for other people she still loved people and she never thought about running away. She stuck with her goals and she pulled herself out of that deep hole and got her life back together. After a while she forgot about how sad she was, and strived back to reality. When she was 16 she took the passion for singing jazz music and performed in talent shows, and sang in front of friends and family.

When Ella Fitzgerald was just in her 20's she had her first recording for her album "A-Tisket A-Tisket" in 1938. This album was a hit, the jazz economy was amazed on how elegant Ella Fitzgerald's voice was. In 1958 Ella's voice was nominated for a Grammy Award. She was going to be the first ever female, African American to win a Grammy Award. Later on in Ella's life she became more and more popular through her music. After Ella Fitzgerald made a fortune she went on and made another album called "I Found My Yellow Basket". This album took the record for best selling album for Ella Fitzgerald she sold almost 30,000 copies of this album. But because Ella Fitzgerald was gaining a fortune she helped out a lot with Civil Right acts all around the United States.

So, why should Ella Fitzgerald be a hero. Well she has a good reputation with the world and it doesn't seem like she would do anything to hurt anyone or commit any crimes. Also she helps people even when she is feeling terrible. Like when her father died she was cutting class and dropping her grades. But she didn't ever stop helping others. She is also a honest and hardworking person because she was stuck in a deep hole for a while but she managed to pull herself out of it and bring everything back together and started so succeed again. This is why I think Ella Fitzgerald should be looked at as a hero.
