In this essay, I will be discussing certain essential questions about my unsung hero, Eugene Lazowski, for my school semester project. I shall discuss questions such as what is empathy, how does empathy affect an individual's perspective on others, and how does where a person live affect how they live? With this I will include some real scenario examples that tie in with my hero, Eugene, and later conclude with the central reason on why my person is heroic.
Firstly, what is empathy? I believe that empathy is the ability to understand or feel what another being is experiencing, to sense other people's emotions. A real example of this is when someone gets a broken arm, and you've have had a broken arm too, you can relate to how that person is feeling, and help them emotionally to feel better. My hero's example of this situation is when he lived around a ghetto of Jews during the Holocaust, and how it might have been worse for them. It was like the Nazis were persecuting everyone, too, judging anyone who helped them like him, so they both had the same amount of danger chasing them.
Secondly, how does empathy affect an individual's perspective on others? Well, a person will have a different perspective on others if they have empathy. This is because they will sense others' emotions and do whatever they can to help that specific person, essentially caring about others, sometimes people you might not even know. A real-life example of this is when you feel empathy for someone, and you help out, and after that you feel a lot better for helping a homeless man find a shelter, a family find a home, etc. Their perspective of others can change from the rest of the world, like how most thought the Jews were bad and mean and crime-loving, and the Nazis were good and were going to eliminate them, but others, like Eugene, felt different for the Jews, and therefore acted differently, and did whatever to help them live a normal life, Nazi or not.
Finally, how does where a person live affect how they live? One word: influence. If you live with or near somebody that has bad behavior, the apple doesn't fall far from the tree. Influencing can make people think things that are not true, and venue with certain backed up evidence, they can go with the rest and ignore what that person has to say. This is exactly how Hitler and the Nazis were able to convince the German population that Jews, gypsies, homosexuals, etc., were bad, despite doing nothing, and creating the Aryan master race, a fake race to leave out people, and those people were blamed for Germany's economic and political loss. So where Eugene lived, there was a lot of Jewish population, and when the Nazis tried to hurt them, he knew how nice normal all of them were, and helped to save them of their innocence.
All this evidence shows my unsung hero, Eugene Lazowski, is heroic for his actions, because he feels empathy for the Jews, and does immense actions to improve the political situation when it comes to the Nazis controlling the European subcontinent, and it affects his perspective of the Nazis and the Jews, and where he has lived does affect how he thinks and how he is influenced. This all shows to prove my hero, Eugene Lazowski, shows the characteristics of a heroic person. Who would you consider heroic?
