Ed

by Hunt from Georgia

My hero is definitely my grandfather. When I heard we had this assignment I knew he was the right one. His name is Ed (short for Edward). My brother is named after him. My brother’s name is Edward Christensen Wasden, or Chris. Ed is 86 years old and he is my mom’s father. He lives in Wrens, Georgia with his wife named Joan Christensen. He grew up in Colorado where he was an actual cowboy. Then he moved to the Bahamas, to Miami from there, and finally to Wrens.

Ed has done many heroic deeds in his lifetime. Ed was a marine in World War II. He operated in the Philippines. During WWII he was shot in the leg. In the Bahamas he was electrocuted doing work on his farm. In Colorado, cows trampled on him multiple times. At age 85 he survived colon cancer. He also taught me how to build a fence. He had a huge hand in completing the great fence stretching ¾ of a mile at our farm. He isn’t just an almost immortal 86 year-old man. But he is one of the nicest, funniest, and smartest people I know.

Ed probably compares the best to Heracles. He’s smart, strong and can get pretty mad. I think the ancient Greeks would like Ed. Ed is amazing. So thank you Ed for being my hero.
