Edith Cowan was and still is one of the biggest influences for Australian women and for all people who believe in persistence. Born in 1861, August 2nd Edith was a huge influence to all people. Edith was born in Glengarry Station near Geraldton, Western Australia. At the age of 7 Edith’s mum died at child birth. Her dad could not cope so he sent her to boarding school. Later her dad remarried. After coming home drunk from a late night Edith’s dad shot and killed his late wife.
In her life time Edith Cowan joined and soon became president of a women's group called The Karrakatta Club. She was the main reason that King Edward hospital for women was built. Not only being the first woman in politics, she gave women the right to vote, she fought for women’s rights tremendously and was the founder of the Children's Protection Society. Because of her amazing knowledge and persistence, Edith Dircksey Cowan was put on our fifty dollar bill.
I believe that Cowan is an amazing woman who has done so much for women in society. By being elected into parliament Edith has inspired women to come out of the dark and speak up. Edith Cowan has helped so many people not only physically (e.g. Hospitals) but mentally by giving people hope and persistence. I think Edith Dircksey Cowan doesn’t deserve to be on the fifty dollar bill. What I want to know is why she is not on the hundred dollar bill.
Edith Cowan is an amazing woman who I am sure many women idolize. Because of her rough childhood I think that gave her the attitude to keep going. She is an inspiration to all women and a hero to many but what stands out to me is her determination, loving heart and amazingly acknowledged courage and bravery just like every hero.
